Billion Oyster Project: STEM Institute
What is STEM Summer Institute
The STEM Summer Institute is a two-week program for high school students which is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the STEM+Computing grant: Integrating Computational Science with Environmental Sciences Associated with Habitat Restoration and Education in New York Harbor. This grant involves the Billion Oyster Project (BOP) as a partner.
At Pace University and the Seidenberg School, experiential learning is in our DNA. That means we don’t just teach theory (though we do that too), we put theory into practice so students learn how to apply what they learn to the real world. We also go further than the classroom - students at our summer camp got to meet marine scientists, attend panel discussions with Google and AppFigures, and master apps like Google Colab, GitHub, and Slack. On top of that, they got to work on real data analytics projects with Billion Oyster Project, learn design thinking techniques, and - most importantly - make new, lifelong connections with their fellow students.
